Macmillan were very good with helping my sister fill out the DLA forms, definitely give them a call xx

  • Thanks for the all the posts. His wife is working full time, and so was he until he was diagnosed - I've no idea what their savings or income are, but my guess is that they're not badly off so probably won't get any income based allowances. Still, needed to ask. I'll make enquiries about the DLA and speak to MacMillan and see what they might be able to come up with.

If he has paid national insurance contributions regardless of his wifes income he will be entitled to ESA conrtibution based in the support group under the descriptor of getting chemo.
  • My Mum has cancer and is currently undergoing treatment.

I know that she got a grant for help with heating last year and is getting another one this year but I dont know exactly who she gets it from.

Mum is sleeping at the min but I will ask her and post back when I know.

Just to add , Mum receives high rate care and high rate mobility DLA .
The loopy one has gone :j

This is unfortunately not quite correct.

Chemotherapy only automatically passports you to the support group if you are undergoing certain sorts.
    Needles count, pills don't.

    In addition.
Contributory ESA is paid for at least the first year of claim, then stops (or drops back to income-based) if you're in the work-related group.
It is only those who keep claiming, after being initially paid ESA due to contributory reasons, without being paid for a period, who will regain payment due to going into the support group.

A new claim for ESA, after not bothering because they were ill will _not_ trigger any payment, even in the support group.
(Unless of course they have been working in the two tax years prior to the start of the year)
