No longer qualify for Warm Home Discount Scheme - British Gas

Hi, I'm after some advice regarding the Warm Home Discount Scheme and would appreciate any help if there's any to be had. Thanks.

I have a prepayment meter and I qualified for the rebate last year but last week I got a call from British Gas saying I no longer qualify even though my circumstances haven't changed. Their reason being is I never spent 10% of my income on them last year.

Based on that they've disqualified me. Because it was introduced last year, I qualified based on my income, but the second year is based on their forecast after assessing the first year.

I find it hard to accept that they're predicting the following year. Even if I was to spend 20% of my income on them this year, and that meant doubling my eligibility, there'd be no payment for it. It would mean I'd qualify for the 3rd year but there'd be nothing to compensate any struggle I might have this year.

If you qualify based on your income, I think they should leave it at that. I don't think they should have a right to basically say give them 10% of it or they'll take it away.

The rebate really helped last year. I tried to use energy wisely because of my low income. Also, I spent over 3 months away from home for important reasons. Those things haven't worked in my favour over this.

Like I said earlier, no circumstances have changed. I know it will be hard especially with the recent price increase. The help that was on offer has now been limited.

Do I have any options?

but your no longer fuel poor, thats the reason as you say yourself your not spending more than 10% on fuel
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
