expansion vessel - repressurising

Boiler's on the blink, rising in pressure then leaking through prv and everything I've read points to the expansion vessel being knackered.
Before I shell out hundreds to get a replacement I want to check it myself and see if it just needs repressurising. I know where it is, don't have to take off any bits to get to it but it's damned awkward to get to. Underneath the flue and there's a sloping ceiling above that - I've been trying to get a footpump attached to it this morning but can't see what I'm doing and afraid of damaging the valve - any tips?

Push the centre pin of the Schrader valve. If any water comes out it's knackered, if not re-pressurise the EV with no system pressure - usually 0.7 - 1.0 Bar then re-fill the system as usual. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

There's no water coming out, and I've lowered the pressure - but I can't get the pump on to try repressurising, I'm stood on a chair, trying to shove my head up against a sloping ceiling and unable to see what I'm doing. Going to try and get hold of a flexible tyre valve extension - anyone used one? are they easier to fit? I imagine they're easier to handle that a fitting attached to a bloomin' great footpump.0

it's not good enough to lower the pressure you need no pressure open the prv & leave it open when you check & re-pressuriseI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
If its been like this for a while, you may need to replace the prv as well.
There may bit a slight bit of muck from the system on the seat now, preventing it from shutting properly.
Check outside at the pipe when finished.0
