My missus wants a current account so that she can take advantage of some of the offers online but being unemployed we're struggling to find her something. Can anyone make any suggestions?
It'd also be nice if we could do it from this chair i.e apply online

Credit history is fine. I tried Cahoot but they said no. Just applied with Halifax Easy Cash account and Abbey. It looks as though she's gunna have to have a Visa Electron card, are these widely accepted?0

May I ask what does "Credit history is fine" mean to you.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
I have had a visa electron for a long time, Just upgraded to a "visa" debit card. Had problems in some petrol stations and most online purchase things. I got around it by using a credit card aswell and using online banking to transfer money from account to credit card as soon as I made any purchases.

All high street banks will offer a basic bank account - specifically for people like your OH who don't have incomes etc. Some banks will provide a Maestro on this type of account - try their websites for ideas. I reckon Yorkshire bank do but depends on where you live!!Unsecured DFD Aug '07 :jBought grown-up house Feb '08Mortgage Balance [strike] £165,000[/strike]£147,500 :rolleyes:0

I opened a Lloyds TSB current account (went into a branch) in December. Not working at the time - said I was a houseperson/homemaker, something like that. Opened a Classic Plus account on the spot (together with regular saver). The account came with a Visa debit card.0
