Time management software?

At the moment, I often work on a 'per hour' basis, but I'm very bad at recording my hours on paper. I'd like some very simple software that would allow me to select between three or four projects, and start and stop a timer so that I can keep track of my hours.

I've seen something called 'Four Four Time' which is pretty much what I wanted, but £50 seems quite a lot of money to invest. Does anyone know of any good alternative?

So you want a basic time and motion software? Googling comes up with a few suggestions but it isnt something that would be hard to create yourself.

I have been trying out klok (free for the lite version) seems to work pretty well, you have a list of projects on the left and you just drag them into a bit that says "work on" however, these things are only as good as the operator!

I've decided to try out "slimtimer" - it's not the prettiest but seems to do the basic time tracking I need. Thanks!

I just use a basic Excel spreadsheet to record my time. Was strange at first, but got used to adding in the time when starting/ending a job
