Yes, I have indeed thought about relocating away from the jobless, no-hope place that is Merseyside. However, there would then arise the problem of finding suitable accommodation, picking an area where the jobs are abundant (but as you so rightly indicated, everywhere is dire now). Catch 22.

You know - and I suspect I speak for many other poor unemployed people here too - I have never, ever, ever felt so down and disheartened as I do now. I have been unemployed now for nearly two years, and in that time I must have sent out HUNDREDS of applications. And out of all those applications, hardly any of these employers has even bothered to respond. The more I think about it, the more it angers me.

No hope. No hope at all for a jobless Merseysider like me.

I actually applied to join the CS back in 1988, in London and was successful.
Had a really god 3 1/2 years in London and then family circumstances gave me the chance to come home, which I did back in 1992.

The digs I was renting werent the best in the world, and as I had been a student living away from home previously, it wasnt hard for me to survive.

Yeah, and I wish I had a job to go with it. Have virtually given up all hope of EVER getting a job on Merseyside.
Well, flippant comments aside:), I do wish you good luck in finding work though!

Does your local JC offer any coaching on finding jobs? Ours has a group called the "Careers Springboard", who are really good.

I`m a current CS (not saying which Dept though) who lives & works on Merseyside and who next month chalks up 24 years service as an AO (with no promotions).

(Murderers do less time than that ...)

Just out of curiosity why haven't you gone for EO positions?
  • I was going to apply for HRMC but realised the FTC was alot shorter than the one I'm already on with DWP. I'm looking to get out of CS soon.... looks like i'm back on the job hunt again.....
