Wasp Nest

Hi
In the last 10 days I have seen some wasps flying in and out of a hole in the brickwork of the back of the house. After checking what to do on here, I got some wasp nest powder and covered the area where they were coming in and out. That was last Saturday, since then I havent seen them go in and out but we have had a couple in the house. Yesterday my daughter found one in her room and during the night woke up to find one in her hair  She spent the rest of the night on the couch!!!
The nest is not visible so I couldnt spray it directly. Has anyone any ideas on how I can find where they are getting in (I have kept the windows closed the last few days) so I am assuming they are in the wall cavity somewhere.
I was hoping the powder would work but not sure if they are just finding another way in and out. I am also concerned that now it getting cold they will die off but the queen will still be there. Is it safe to block up the crack in the wall or will that just mean next year the nest will be built somewhere else in the cavity?

Given it's the second-half of October, it will be empty soon.
Wasp's do not re-use nests - the queen leaves the nest at the end of the season and finds a place to hibernate until spring."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

so wait untill mid December and then block up all the possible points of access to stop it happening again.0 -
Thank you both, I am hoping they will be gone very soon!!! and I will have the crack filled in, I certainly dont want a repeat next year, It just fortunate they arrived so late in the season.
I hope we dont have a repeat of last night. I think I might have a very nervous daughter going to bed tonight.0
