Changing from Pre Payment to Billed

Options
Have just moved house and for the the first time since Uni have had to deal with a pre-payment meter for Electric. Any advice on getting this changed over to a normal meter where they will send me a bill. Have contacted Scottish Power and they say it will cost me £125 (refundable after 12 months) to get this done. is this usually the case or does anyone know a way round it. Electric for a 2 bed house is currnetly costing approx £20 a week which is a lot more than my last place.

Differrent providers have different rules, BG will credit check, so if you failed SP's you will probably fail with BG as well. Try ringing round the other companies and asking what their policy is, some may say you have to keep it for a certain amount of time before swapping it and if your lucky you may find one that will do it straight away for nothing (after your transfer has gone through).

    Hi..

apparet from the pain of being on prepayment...you dont pay a huge diffrence in amounts, if they are asking you for a deposit..it is for either one of 2 things..

    Bad credit..
    not enough address history..

check it out....if you want to lower your £20.00 per week cut back on the electric..EG switch ya TV off stand by since it uses the same amount of leccy as one..also sky box off since it consumes the same any time of the day..also make sure there is no old debt on the meter..u never know..u will need to call them to check this.
Hey folks...remember I might work for the company but I am a human and working in my own time, I will not responde to people who are rude, sarcy and crits me. My views and comments do not reflect British Gas and they are totally unreasponsable for my responses.

EDF will change the meters for free, as I'm moving into a prepayment meter house soon and they will come out after 4 weeks to change it
