Hi there, Just a query regarding the new universal benefit.
I have a tax credit overpayment which is being recovered from my continuing tax credit payments. Im wondering if this will continue when it goes over to the new benefit next April?
Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

Hi
UC is being introduced as follows: http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/help_with_housing_costs/universal_credit?gclid=CLzA8amRirMCFe7MtAodE28AWA
I would therefore say that your renewal for 2014 will be the one to be most concerned about. I am certain that providing you still meet the requirements for a top up, that they will still recover any overpayment from your claim. Is it a large one? If it is not too large - can you put some money aside each week out of earnings to pay some more of it off, perhaps by looking at your outgoings very carefully. Although I am sure you have most likely done this already, but it can be surprising just what you can still do and live well for a whole lot less. We've had to over the years. The debt free wanabees board is I am told a very helpful bunch - fresh eyes can often spot something you may have missed.0 -
Yes it will - they will be amalgamating all overpayments from all the benefits switching over to UC into one overpayment thats paid back through your UC payments0
