can someone clarify these terms? Which ones should I avoid due to spyware etc and which ones are safe to install as being truly free?
BTW what does "warez" mean? I notice that they seem to have a negative reputation... I think
Thanks!

Warez is illegal software so probably better not to talk about it here.

Try to use google in future mate
Best place for legal free software is https://www.download.com
look at top picks for most popular stuff.0 -
Freeware - Usually free to use for no set period, providing you comply with the license.
Shareware - Free to use for a short period, as a trial use. Normally will need payment to register to continue use at end of trial period.
Both above could contain spyware, you'd need to read the installation license details very carefully, or check the main anti-spyware sites for info before installing.
Warez - term usually applied to illegal/pirated versions of programs.0 -
Absolutely - The license type is not a guarantee of no spyware.
Get 'spybot - search and destroy' downloaded from download.com (it's freeware) first and always run it after you install a new piece of software.0 -
No need to download freeware/shareware to the check if it contains spyware.
Check first in the Spyware Guide database.
