    Hi

Since this is for a personal site, try using a template
    https://www.oswd.org

Then I find filezilla a good FTP program (for uploading your website to the web)
    http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/

Find a free HTML editing software, I just searched and found
    http://www.pagebreeze.com/

I use https://www.fuzioned.com for both hosting and domain name registration.
  • I use UK Cheapest www.uk-cheapest.co.uk for my domains and hosting, the domain is free with hosting.

You might need a html editor if you don't already have one to make the pages. www.nvu.com is free

If you have/get a g-mail account you could use google page creator
    https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=pages&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fpages.google.com%2F&ltmpl=yessignups
  • Googlepages is terrific.

It is absolutely free and very easy to set up.

There are various help groups on the internet as well if you want to make your site a bit more flashy.

I have set up a site on googlepages. PM me if you want a link to have a look.

If you want just a "Business Card" style website, I'd just use Google Sites... anything extra, got to a professional - whatever you do, don't make it all in flash!

Google sites is capable of some pretty advanced stuff - it's certainly the easiest for collecting data, as you just set up a spreadsheet in Google Docs, make a form from the spreadsheet (2 clicks), and embed the form in a webpage (about 3 clicks). You can link in stuff from spreadhseets, docs, calendars, RSS feeds, etc very easily.

Not sure why this thread has restarted 3 years later though ...
