Do You Try To Persuade Other People Not to Spend Money?

I was out with my daughter today and she was looking for a birthday present for a friend. She only sees this friend once or twice a year, doesnt really know her size or taste and so didnt know what to buy her. She eventually picked up a handbag which was very nice, anyone would have liked it and although it was £19.99 and being a poor student, DD doesnt have any money, she decided to buy it as the easy option.

As we stood in the long queue my mind was working overtime thinking about her overdraft and I asked her if she wanted to spend this much on her friend that she hardly sees anymore. She said no but what else is there? and I said what about a belt, a scarf, a purse? We left the queue and she managed to find a little silver purse for £11.99, so she saved £8.:T

At the weekend I stopped my OH buying a shredder for £200 and we've had two massive bonfires and got rid of all the lot. Although bad for the environment, :o it has saved us some money and I would have burned petrol going to the skip anyway.

I seem to have got into the habit of telling people, even neighbours and work colleagues, not to waste money. One woman at work told me that she spends £150 a week:eek: on groceries and I found myself giving her a lecture about how to economise :o when really its none of my business. I do it wherever I go. I even find people admitting their debts to me and I advise them how to pay it off. Do any of you do this? Im beginning to wonder if Im a terminal bore. so totally am I obsessed with saving money. I was sitting chatting with my ex-neighbour the other day and suddenly realised that we had been talking about money for half an hour. I remarked to her that we always end up talking about our money problems and she agreed with me. I suppose most people are interested in money because they dont have enough of it.

    Yes, I'm the same.

If I'm not lecturing on how to save money, I am showing my OH's parents the MSE site or talking about my little tricks to earn a 0% overdraft, etc.

My OH's father thinks I am on some kind of fiddle and that the tax man will catch up with me, but its all legal!!! I think I just like thinking I am getting one over on the "big guys" (ie the banks, etc)!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

Hi, I have found myself doing the exact same thing and also believe that its got to the point Im classed as a debt bore. ;)

I am not shy about talking about money anymore nd openly confess my debt to my friends and also MSE ways of doing things.

I do not understand how we live in a society that openly talks about sex, has a rising violent culture but stilll find it impossible to talk about money. Why is Money such a Taboo in our culture?

Some of the things ive lectured people on are eating out, taking on car finance and shifting debt around on credit cards why still using them and not having the LBM.

Luckily my friends are still talking to me but I dont know how far I can take it before they get totally peeved at me :rotfl:

Its strange but when you actually start talking to people about money, how many of them admit to having debt. It often comes out in the form of a confession and they say how worried they are and how they dont know what to do.
