Co-Op bank rant

Hi folks

I need to get this off my chest cos i'm so angry. After the other day when the Co-Op allowed a company to go back into my account with a different company name and different direct debit reference, I decided to go down to the branch to complain because I got absolutely nowhere on the phone to "customer services" and was passed from pillar to post.

So, I went to branch and politely explained what had happend. When we went through the lot it seems that my account was not set up properly in the first place back in February this year. All in all, between the banks !!!! ups, sending out payments that they shouldn't have, one fraudulent payment and Sheilas Wheels taking 2 months payments instead of one, muggins here is out of pocket to the tune of £650.

I'm so upset, depressed and plain fed up to my back teeth with the lot of them. I've spoken to trading standards and sent off all the necessary letters. I've been left chasing this money because the adviser in the Co-Op couldn't get through to anyone! The interview was conducted in the middle of the bank with the advisor giving my bank account number out over the phone......in the middle of the place with a queue building

I've had it, I really have. I asked for an official complaints form but "they were out of stock, don't know when they're coming back in"

I didn't notice this happening because the account was set up in February 07 and I was ill in March with Gastric Flu for 3 weeks so my eyes were off the ball. Then I was laid up when my back went into spasm again.

What the hell more can I do? I can't trust them to sort it out. It seems they couldn't organise a !!!! up in a brothel! I intend persuing this. In fairness, the person in branch did try to sort out some of the problems but i've been left with the majority. It's making me ill. I can feel my IBS starting. I've just finished treatment for depression caused by chronic pain and then this bunch of jokers start. What can I do? Advice much appreciated at this point.

Thanks peeps

Just write a complaint to the branch - you can't go to the ombudsman until you have exhausted the co-op's complaints procedure

regarding insurance company taking 2 payments in once month - sometimes this does happen on initial payment

did the bank mention a direct debit indemnity claim?

It's not down to the bank "allowing" or "sending" payments . if they are direct debit payments the bank has no control over these as the companies will send the instruction to the bank for payment if there are funds there your bank willl pay them. the bfact sheilas wheels asked for 2 payments is not your bank fault, its sheilas wheels!

If a new direct debit with a new reference is set up on your bank account the bank does not know that this is for the same company as a direct debit you already have. As far as the bank is concerned you have set up a new dd for something you have recently purchased.

So even tho your bank appears to have not given you the correct level of service, it is not all just down to your bank. If direct debits have been asked for from your bank incorrectly then there is the indemnity scheme under the direct debit guarentee that your bank can start in order to get the money back into your account that you believe has been taken wrongly.

    Thanks to everybody for replying.

The problem i'm having is that First Direct, Co-Op and the insurance is blaming each other. Sheilas Wheels are dealt with.

I'm going on holiday and the money that has gone is my spends, plus my familys holiday money too. I go in 13 days so am now starting to panic. I just want someone to own up. I still can't get an official complaint form so am unable to get any further. It's like i'm being held to ransom.

I still feel that Co-Op are part way to blame because the account was not set up correctly in the first place. The DD mandate that I sent initially went missing with Co-Op and First Direct blaming each other again. I just want it sorted out asap.

It's affecting my health, my IBS has flared up, my back is in spasm so am back on strong muscle relaxants, i'm not sleeping cos i'm worrying and i'm terrified of looking to see what's in my bank account.

I'm just fed up being passed from pillar to post.
