Help Awkward Buyer!

Sold an item which ended on Sunday the item was received i presume today by the buyer.

I have just noticed that I have made a slight mistake in the listing by saying 4-6 players rather than 2-4 players. However to buy the item you would know what it was, and would have known it was an error as the game is only a maximum of 4 players!

The buyer has sent me a message and has been rather irate telling me that it is a different version to the one listed (it is not) and that they are 2 of the counters missing as it is for up to 6 players.

I replied telling him that it was the same version pictured (i photographed it and it is the only one that i have!) and that all the pieces are there and it is complete (it was only after i sent this i realised the error in the listing) and if he wished to return the item to me i would issue him with a refund.

I got a further irate email telling me that it wasn't the one in the picture, so i told him if he wasn't happy with what i had suggested then he should feel free to open an item not described with ebay.

Cue a further irate email with the same reply.

Now the item was only won for a tenner so its not a massive amount of money. But its money that i would really rather not lose. I know the item is the right one and is complete but what on earth do i do if he sends me back a different one to what i sent??

Where do i stand?

I very much doubt he will send back a different one. Just stick with the line 'send it back for a full refund' and leave it at that.

Just remember though that you really ought to be refunding return postage.

Also, don't ask buyersto raise an ebay case - this can count against you.
  • The words postage haven't been mentioned. I only mentioned opening a case because I am not going to sit here and put up with irate emails!

The thing is soolin the item in a complete state is rare. You can easily pick them up cheaply from carboots but they are never complete. Which is making me wonder when he says that bits are missing!

The item was described accurately and the picture was of the item that I sent to them.

Can I ask why i really ought to be paying for return postage? I am not a business seller. This is an item from my MIL's loft that she asked us to get rid of, It belonged to my OH as a child. Why should I be out of pocket when I have sent the correct item as described with a slight typo (which makes no difference to the item), the buyer is insisting a refund but doesn't seem to want to return the item I have offered a refund on multiple occasions now.

Thing is you misdescribed the game by saying it was for 4/6 players when it was infact for 2/4.I would imagine your buyer thinks its incomplete becausr there are only enough counters or whatever for 4 players not 6.
If i had bought it, i would consider it snad because i cannot use it for 6 players as you stated in your listing.
The fault was yours not your buyers and i suppose his attitude is why should i lose out financially through no fault of my own.
