Sorry to hear your news. get your wife to go to the Job Centre and put a claim in ASAP. she may need the latter from her employer to say why she isn't at work but that's OK she should get this anyway. there may be a sanction but the sooner she gets the claim in the sooner the time comes for her to get money.
As others have previously said go on the entitled to wesbite and find out what (if anything) you might be able to get.
AND
Post your SOA on DFW and see if there are any short to mid term solutions to your debts...
FWIW I was made redundant in April, still don't have a job despite applying for loads. Got Contributions Based JSA but now it's over 6 months I can't get JSA any more (partner works so can't get Income Based JSA).
However, just found out from entitled to wesbite I can get Council Tax Benefit, and Child Tax Credit which entitles my kids to Free School Meals. :j
