Direct line renewal...

Thought I'd share this. I had my renewal from Direct Line - £400. I did the usual price comparisons etc. Direct Line have always been the best (I've been with them for over 10 years) for me.
I did find a couple other quotes a little better although not a great deal better. I decided to do a new quote on line for Direct Line, just to see what came back. It was £246 for exactly the same (well, even better as I lowered the excess). I went through Quidco - £50 cashback.
I did query this and the lady said they should be able to price match it. But couldn't! She said to go ahead with the new quote.
So anyone going with Direct Line renewal - try the website for a quote!

I had exactly the same.
The only issue was that the optional extras fitted and declared under the previous policy didn't carry through so I had to spend 30 mins talking to the call centre getting them added.
And they said make sure you tell renewals dept that you aren't renewing otherwise they will renew and you have the hassle of cancelling.
That was a fun call, 'and why aren't you renewing with us', 'better quote', 'who with?', 'direct line'.....

Madness, isn't it? I go through that performance every year for my car and buildings/contents policies with Direct Line. I rate them highly as an Insurer and find their call centre staff very helpful, but they do appear to be treating "new" customers better than their loyal ones. (I make this point every time I call them to get the online price instead of the one on the renewal notice).0

OMG!! My automatic renewal quote with Direct Line was £1400, and I just got insurance from Admiral for £580 - with extras! How can DL be so scandalous!0

Hi,
I am in a similar situation! I got my car insurance renewal from direct line and its £100 more than the new customer quote online!
Can i just let the old policy expire (its not on auto renew) and buy new policy online to start on date old one runs out? Also as its with the same company does that mean i don't have to send proof of my No Claims?
Thanks0 -

I save the new quote online, call them, they compare quotes and offer me a discount (usually about 50% of the difference) and then I ask if I can just activate the new quote online. They then put me through to someone else and we activate the new policy. No need for proof of No Claims, because they link all the info. 15-20 minutes well spent!0
