Installing new blinds

Potentially stupid question alert!
So I'm trying to fit new blinds into the two bedroom windows.
Have just tried to drill a hole for the rawl plug but can only drill about an inch until I hit what feels like a metal plate, which I assume is there to support the double glazed window.
So, how do I drill far enough in to fit the rawl plug, which needs about 1.5 inch.
Please help!

Can't you screw it into the PVCu window frame using a plastic screw or wood screw. Use a tiny one, say 0.5 to 1 cm long at most. just make sure it screws into the plastic and not the Glass!!
Just fill the holes on the wall.

A decent metal drill bit should do the job. Don't use hammer action.
I can't comment on the wisdom of drilling into metal window lintels or metal pvc frame reinforcements. I don't imagine it will do any harm as I assume that they are made sufficiently strong to withstand a few holes for blinds, curtain poles etc.
But I'm no expert on such matters.0 -
Thanks for the replies. Can't drill into the uPVC because the blinds are fitting into the recess and need to be hanged from the top.
I might try a metal drill bit, just a bit worried about drilling through the plate! We had blinds fitted downstairs last year and they must have come across the same thing, but trying to stay away from paying £500 to buy them and have them fitted if I can avoid it!0 -
What sort of blinds? Most, other than verticals, can be fitted by screwing the fixing to the sides of the recess.0

I fitted my daughter's blinds, one side and the middle drilled sweet as a nut, the other despite a new "metal " bit wouldn't go any further than about an inch. I used a shorter screw cut the rawlplug down and some no nails squirted in the hole.
They are still up.
My neighbour said he used a special bit on his that went through no problem.0 -

I had the same issue of encountering the metal frame used to hold the plasterboard and was hanging in the recess, so fitted them to the PVCu frame.
You will find that this is the easiest, and if all fails fit a batten and attach to it.
