Assuming no ncd for this car it probably won't make any difference to the premium.

But if it is your car, then she will find it hard to find an insurer to allow her to insure it in her name.

not quite true that , my daughters car WAS registered in my name ,insurance fully aware (because of a personal plate bought for her but in my name )
she paid £25 extra because it was in my name

Now it's registered in her name adding another owner to the log book , the insurance company don't charge extra

but we had no trouble finding insurance in her name but with me as registered keeper

Try a comparison website. Oh you cant.

1st page it says assumptions are made. You are the registered owner and keeper of the vehicle. No OK dont waste your time here then.

You would need to phone and not all companies like cars registered in one name and insured under another.

Hard maybe not, But harder than if it were in the same name.

    Tracey,

Either I or all the other replies have misunderstood you: I interpret your question as "If I own and insure the car, but name her as main user".

There is nothing wrong with that, and you can use comparison sites to get a quote etc. But there's unlikely to be a significant advantage as your second policy will start with no NCD.

I wouldn't recommend your proposed approach. Suggest you bite the bullet, pay a little more, and let her build up her own NC history. The main advantage to this is that your insurance history will not be affected if she does have a prang. And by all means add your name as a second driver on her policy, it usually reduces the young person's premium.

Try a comparison site for a quote in her name. When it asks who the registered keeper and legal owner is, put "parent"

    (Fixed that for you)

If you do, use a dummy name, close address, and a generic car.

If it's of any use, I was recently speaking to an insurance agent. He told me that no matter if you put down a young person as the main driver or a named driver the policy price will be based on them as the main driver. This is apparently to try to put a stop to fronting.

    Not true in our case.
Our daughter was a named driver on my wife's policy, when we asked about the effect of changing her to main driver, the premium would have gone up.
So I did search for her as driver in her own right, with us as named drivers, and the premium was actually lower.
When my wife phoned up to say she wouldn't be renewing her policy, explaining why, they said they would have matched the other quote anyway.
