Does anyone have any suggestions for the best type of carpet for a rental property and also cheap suppliers?

some independent high street stores work out a lot cheaper than the chains. I spent £1000 and got my stairs and upstairs carpeted, laminate floor fitted downstairs and new lino for the kitchen and small ensuite (fitting included in the price, so bargain). You have to be prepared to barter with them though.
I can recommend a place in east London...S.A.D and proud

another vote for the independant carpet shop...I have just spent £1200 on carpeting a rental property....hall,stairs landing, front room dining room 2 beds...
We have opted for a darker beige type colour at £10 ior there abouts per sm...and a good underlay...
Independants if they are good probably do a lot of fitting in the rental market and will tell you what works well and lasts...its what makes up a lot of their business.
Again as said before a bit of haggling is good and should be well received.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Oh yes should have mentioned location! East London.
I guess I was thinking that there might be some good online suppliers or sellers on ebay who would give a better quality at a good price. My cheapest local shops do have carpet for £5.99 psqm but I have no idea if it will wear well or not.
Am hoping to pay less than £1000 for a 2 bed flat...is that unrealistic?
My experience with tenants is that thyey fail to look after things so it is better to go for a cheapish option on all items and just replace them at end of tenancy rather than stressing that something good quality has been trashed.0 -
Tivoli from Carpetright £6 per sq m but often have up to 20% off during promotions. Put good underlay with it - but don't get the underlay and gripperod from Carpetright - lots of online deals and if you are doing several rooms you will order sufficient to get free delivery.0

Thanks. Is that a loop/berber style or plain twist?Tivoli from Carpetright £6 per sq m but often have up to 20% off during promotions. I have a link to an online supplier for underlay. Would I need new grip rods or should the old ones be ok?0 -
It's a berber loop. Old gripper may be OK. If you use good underlay, when your tenants move out, if the carpets are badly marked, you should be able to get away with just changing the carpet and leaving the underlay down.0
