I agree with the above post, please make a post with a full SOA (staement of affairs) so that people can point you in the right drection and be see if there are ways of sorting this out for you more easily.

Even if you are not in debt, it would allow people to see where you stand financially and how much money you have spare, or what you're entitled to.

For hot water, could you not have an immersion installed in the hot water tank?

we are not in debt we only have a mortgage so not sure how that would help tbh.
    Please consider it.

They will look at your current income, and whether you are getting all you are entitled to, as well as what you are spending that money on.

If you have no other debts, why do you think you would be turned down for a loan?

    Btw, that's nonsense too. ;)
It may be difficult to obtain spare parts if they were required, that's all.

But without the airbrick, servicing would be a waste of money.

No one will be able to help as such, but social services maybe able to provide the heaters temp
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

All the more reason to post over on the DFW board
Hopefully that will then illustrate how much spare money you could have to service a loan :)

This is a mine of misinformation.

There is no shortage of independent engineers who would service your boiler and fit an air vent. There are plenty of back boiler units and fires out there which are still giving excellent service and a painted case is not a valid reason for non use.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Sorry to hear of what must be a horrible situation. The only positive thing I can say is that a possible/probable danger to you and your children has been nullified.

Do you have equity in your house? If so, can't you ask for a loan, preferably a mortgage topup, secured on that equity? The amount spent on a new boiler would increase the value of your house from what it currently is by probably more than you'd spend.

I would be willing to bet a decent independant heating engineer (check the local Gas Safe list) would still be able to find parts for a 1980 back boiler. There are probably hundreds of these still in existance and they were all pretty generic.

It may well be unsafe in its current unserviced condition and without the airbrick but that doesn't mean its beyond salvation. Its also worth bearing in mind that even if you got some storage heaters etc, electric heating is going to cost a lot more than gas so the money you will be spending on that would be better put towards getting the heating working and getting the airbrick installed.

Ask around locally to see who can recommend a heating engineer and see if they will come and take a look.
