Has anyone had help from council with a DLA claim?

I have been getting lower rate care DLA for 2 years. When I originally applied the CAB filled out my forms, but I got nothing, I asked for them to look at it again, saw their doctor and got lower rate care.
Recently an occupational therapist came out from the council to see about my bathing arrangements and agreed I needed adaptations. She also felt I should be getting more DLA, and she faxed the benefits section of our local council to ask someone to come out and help me claim more DLA.
I spoke to CAB about this and they said they'd never heard of the council helping with DLA claims, but to request a claim form asap as it starts as soon as you request the form.
Has anyone else had someone from the local council help them claim DLA?

Hi, my local council has a welfare rights team that can help with DLA and other benefits claims. They offer a drop in service once a week at the social work centre but can come to your home if you have difficulty getting out. They do have long waiting lists for home visits.Jan 2013 GC 0/250

The Social Services, OT and Direct Payment staff wrote letters to confirm my disabilities and that I have a stairlift, walk in shower and BB etc etc.
There are welfare rights team members that will help.

Councils have welfare rights officers, they are however under a heavy workload and most will only be assigned to complex cases and appeal representations. If you request assistance from the council you will likely have the paperwork completed by a socioal services duty officer. No bad thing as many will be doing this every day and will know how to respond to the questions.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0
