Probably the Credit Card section would be more appropriate than the Bank Accounts but still.
These things are done for marketing reasons, as you say, or because they are retiring the card type you currently have and dont want to have to maintain the stationary for the few customers still on it or it can be that the product limits are different (eg you still have your £3,000 limit (or whatever) but the maximum limit the product supports may go up from £5,000 to £7,500)
Looking at Barclaycard.co.uk there is no straight barclaycard any more there is Initial, Platinum, Gold, Freedom etc0 -
