Admiral insurance chip repair excess

Options
I am absolutely seething at these people....
After getting a chip in my windscreen and contacting them through say no to 0870 :) they transferred me to their tame windscreen company, National windscreens.
Man in van turns up and repaired chip then they contact me today asking for £25 excess !!!!!!
Despite there being absolutely no mention of an excess during the call.....
Customer services are looking into it but I won't hold my breath.
Caveat Emptor I suppose....
looking for a new insurance company now......

What does your policy say about any excess for a repair?

If that makes no mention, don't pay!

You now have a claim on your record to disclose to any new insurer you approach for a quote.

Next time see how much as local independent would charge - and avoid any premium loading.

Check the policy details. Most insurers do not have an excess for this.

Admiral charge £25 excess for windscreen repairs. It will be listed on your policy schedule so your stuck with it despite the fact they didn't mention it in a phone call.

The good news is that when I renew I am usually asked about claims not including windscreen repairs.

Why should they mention it when it is stated in your policy documentation?

It is YOUR responsibility to read up about this stuff when you buy insurance. If you're another of those people who just tick the "I agree" box then you've only yourself to blame.
  • I am with Admiral, and made a similar claim around May 2011, and never got charged an excess

The first thing I'd have asked when requesting someone comes out to repair my car would be is there going to be a charge, and how much will it be? Surely that's just common sense.

I'm with Admiral as they're about £100 cheaper than anybody else. So I'm not surprised that total level of cover is less than with some competitors.
    If
looking for a new insurance company now......
increases premiums by more than £25 it's not really worth it.
    Can I help?

Admiral are on the high side for windscreen repair (£25)/replacement (£75 or £100 - can't remember off the top of my head).

However, it's clearly stated on your policy documentation.

Surely a key question when making any claim on any insurance policy is "What excess applies to this?"
