One of the few firm rules of investment is that, as Warren Buffet often makes clear, you reduce your chances of a decent return if you give handouts to layer upon layer of "helpers". Google for his famous story of "The Gotrocks and Helpers".

    ....

Edit: link to Gotrocks tale http://money.cnn.com/2006/03/05/news/newsmakers/buffett_fortune/index.htm

Good story. The first thing I must do is sell my massive holding in Berkshire Hathaway. That will get rid of one "helper".

Hang on while I get my PA to call my IFA to ask him to check with my DFM whether this is a good idea or not. :D
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

If the DFM holds that fund for you through a fund isn't it the fund manager of that fund's job? That's the fund manager that runs the fund that your fund manager puts your funds in I mean, not the fund manager of the fund that puts your funds into Mr Buffets fund.
  • Guys,

Having read your posts over a good period I think the three of you together with Dunston should pick a good pub convenient to you all and have a night out over a few beers.

Put the world to rights in a more convivial atmosphere!

I think we should all get out more!
