Confused! Please help!

Good Morning,

Please can you lovely people help me with an issue I am having on Ebay?!

I haven't used my account to sell for a little while but sold 10 items last night, all of which have been paid for via Paypal. Now when I have logged onto my Paypal account it says that because I am a new seller that my funds will be held for up to 21 days. Problem is now that I can't transfer the money to my bank account for me to pay for postage of these items.

Now Paypal does give me the option to buy the postage labels on their site and they will release the funds to cover the postage. Problem is I have put all my postage costs at 2nd Class Mail and the automated system only gives me options for 1st Class etc (the parcels are only light approx 300g). Also I know this sounds a little bit dim maybe but as their postage calculator is in KG if my parcel is 300g do I enter this as 0.3kg?

I'm really annoyed by this (sorry if people don't agree) but I have sold these items specifically to give me some spare cash for a little holiday next week and now I won't have the money that I need! At the end of the day I have bought and sold using this account in the past and rightly so this money surely belongs to me as they are my items that have been sold! Paypal have soon deducted their 'fees' from my balance, I think it's rather cheeky to be honest!

Any advice/help greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Unfortunately the 21 day hold is fairly common and there would have been a warning either on turbo lister or on the sell your item form before you listed.

However, all you can really do is upgrade to 1st and take the hit unless you can find any money at all to pay cash at the post office. A packet at 300g is going to be £2.20, can you not even send say half that way and save the upgrade to 1st? If you can get them flat enough to go as a large letter it will be even cheaper at £1.40 large letter.

The 21 day hold is designed to stop some of the real issues with scam sellers that we had, and I think you'll find most people welcome it. Yes it can be inconvenient, but as we are aware the hold is there you can choose whether to sell or not.

as for the postage , 300g would be 0.300 in paypal- if you use paypal postage just remember you still need to take them to the PO to get proof of postage.

  • Brilliant thanks for your quick reply Soolin much appreciated.

I guess if it makes things safer for Ebay/Paypal users then I guess I am all for it, although inconvenient.

I will more than likely follow your suggestion and post a certain number of them first class and lose a little bit of money and then post the rest 2nd class paying by cash.

    Thanks again!

The biggest cost difference is on the 'packet' size , so work out which you can pay for at the post office and which saves most money. Be careful with the sizing though, check using the proper plastic guage at PO before you opt for large letter
