No its not normal and shouldn't happen although I accept that no-one is perfect.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I've only been to a chiropodist once and that was enough for me. The woman took her scalpel and went down the side of my big toe nails with it. I'm not sure why as I've never had an ingrowing toenail. On both toes the scalpel went right down through the end of my toe - eek! It was agony to walk home because every time I put my foot down the split would open. It took ages to heal.0

Chiropodists/podiatrists are essentailly the same profession.
They are registered by the Health and care Professions Council, as are many others in healthcare apart from doctors, nurses and pharmacists.
You should check that they are registered http://www.hpc-uk.org/ and you can make a complaint if you need to.
It could be that the same person regularly makes mistakes or fails to take proper care, but because they work for different GP practices there is no 'joined up system' for identifying how regularly they do this.
I am not advocating reporting everyone, but if standards are failing they can be investigated and offered retraining etc, to prevent others from suffering.
In extreme cases people can be struck off. As stated, sometimes a mistake can just be inconvenient, but for those with diabetes for example it can be very serious.0 -

I'm cringing reading your post as that's just how my toe feels, the cut opening up with every step.
Without being dramatic, it was like having surgery on my toe without anaesthetic:eek:0 -
I go about 4 times a year as I have dropped metatarsles and so have lumpy hard skin under one foot. Never had a problem and I have to say its like walking on a clound when I get out of there.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Sounds to me like she was being very careless, but you get good and bad in every profession.
Good needs to be praised more and bad needs reporting or they will carry on being careless0 -

Well that's what you should be able to expect really.
I've paid privately in the past and used to love that feeling.
Not much chance of it at this NHS clinic though. I come out worse off, pain wise, than I went in!:mad:0 -
Well it's an NHS chiropodist that does my mum's at the house, due to her disabilities and diabetes. And yes, she does get the occasional nick, but says it's not sore. Could be that she's got a lot of pain going on in other places that she doesn't notice it though. Although in saying that, my mam isn't getting hard skin done, just really her non toe nails if you see what I mean.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

I go about 4-5 times a year as my skin is ooo hard and my big toes have a tendancy to get spikey and dig in. I have never, ever been cut or even mildly hurt. I pay about £30 a time and it is so worth it as my feet are like babies when I come out. Ive tried to keep it up with a ped-egg but doesnt come close and the pile of skin she removes is enormous!!!Noli nothis permittere te terere
