Where's it warm in October?

We have a special family celebration in October and looking for somewhere still warm during the school half term October holiday.

Thought of Cyprus but don't want to fly much further than 4 hours.

Any ideas?

Thanks. Maisie

Turkey is still warm in October. Flight time is around 4 hours.

  • I have been to Cyprus quite alot over the last 4 years and it is generally warmish until november time. Think the waterpark shut about the start of October last year. I have been there in January and the weather was bad but should be OK in October, alittle chilly at night maybe.

I stayed in the south, near Pathos

The ONLY short flight places I would say are a sure thing are Cyprus (especially the east) & the Canaries.
Turkey in the southern end is prob a fairly safe bet too but resorts that use Alayna (sp?) or Dalaman.

Greek islands can be very chilly in the evenings, windy as well. Rhodes or Kos would be safest.

I've been to the Canaries & Cyprus in October & both were great.

    Thanks Dukie.

That hotel looks ideal but couldn't get the date column to work?

Do you book direct with hotel or an agent?

I've done Egypt and Turkey in October and they have both been lovely.
  • Crete (Greece). Just 4 hours flight, closer than Cyprus. The sea holds its summer temp for some months. Not unusual to swim until late November there. Charters may stop late October but there's GB Airways which does reasonable scheduled flights from Gatwick direct to Heraklion.

A couple of years ago I was in Crete the first 2 weeks of September & we found some evenings quite chilly.

Crete IS NOT as hot as Cyprus.

I think Rhodes & Kos are warmer than Crete, I found the evenings in late sep early Oct WARMER than early Sep in Crete & Cyprus is warmer than any Greek islands.
Yes Crete is southerly but its quite open & windy. Rhodes & Kos are tucked in along the Turkish coast line so are more sheltered.
