Nationwide recently set me up a new credit card. We've been their customers for decades and they know our habits, incomings and outgoings pretty well
I didn't realise (my own fault for not checking) that the credit limit they'd given me was about half what it had been on my previous card, and not enough for me to use it in the way I usually do - ie for some routine purchases (petrol, insurances etc) and the occasional 'big' spend - eg holidays.
As soon as I realised, I contacted them. The new amount I asked for was less than the monthly amount I have going into my current account. I have no mortgage, no loans, no other cards, and a pretty healthy balance/savings etc. I pay off in full each month, and have set up a d/d to do so.
They hummed and haaaa'd for a week, then told me I could have the amount requested, but that I was *lucky* that this had been agreed.
Given that almost any other cc would have been prepared to give me this amount straight up, and my OH was by now highly irritated, my feeling was they were the lucky ones, to keep our business!!Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -

Limits are based upon individual circumstance, why does it matter? They give no indication of what someone else may get.
Aqua card (3% cashback) seem to only hand out credit linits of £250 or £500, I thought that was useful information if I was going to apply for one.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. It's not your god given right to have a large credit limit and to behave like a child about it ( "they were the lucky ones, to keep our business" ) makes you look like a bit of a wally!!0 -

It's useful to get an overview of what other people are getting offered because there are trends over time linked to market conditions. If you don't think it is, simply don't reply to the thread0
