The Great Quality Street scandal!

Hi!
Great detective work by my nieces and nephews!!
They buy a tin of Quality Street every Xmas - and each tin has the date and net weight on the bottom of the tin - so they did a comparison as they were sure the tins were getting smaller each year. This is proof they were right.

Results:
2004-1.7kg in a tin,
2012 - 820g in a tin
Conclusion - Quality Street tins should be restored to their 2004 net weight. Pretty sure that the price has not gone down as the net weight has done!

I saw them other day, I cant quiet believe just how small they are now. Same with Roses, the celebrations are in bigger container although they are only 855g now0

I distinctly remember Q/Street and Roses both being sold in 3 Kilogram Tins
I must be old - but thats what you call "a tin"When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -
They will be next saying is good for us to have smaller tins. Everything seems to be getting smaller, chocolate, crisps etc but its with odds the reduce sizes with our increasing size of our bellies

I read (or maybe saw in a TV program) that apparently consumers prefer decreasing pack sizes to increased prices.
That may be true but I think the manufacturers and supermarkets are far too sneaky about it. I also think they probably prefer the pack decrease as well as they can get away with a bigger change than they would if the price went up.
That pic is fab by the way, I'd never have guessed the pack size would have halved in less than 10 years!Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger No. 26 :hello:XStitch to do list:-- Birth Sampler -- Christmas Angel -- Mum's Xmas Stitch -- Christmas decs 3 & 4 -- Xmas Bird ---- Snowflake Sonata -- Be Jolly -- JE Unicorn -- Start HAED!!! --0 -
On the plus side, you can nest the tins so make for easy storage

The boxes are getting lighter too! They are now 350g and they used to be 454g.0

I'd be interested if anyone has the time to check if whether the tins of QS are the same size in each shop. I was in one local shop today that were advertising them as 800g and another last week said 795g and I've also seen 855g. It can be confusing as there is "gross" and "net" weight which might be confusing things.
So if anyone is out and about perhaps you could make a mental note? It caught my attention because it was in Lidl I think I saw the sign for 795g tins which could be the net weight but would be an unusual way to advertise them as it would be normal to go for the gross figure so it looks like you are getting more.0 -
I LOVE this - and love the photo! Shown two people in work already! I knew they were getting smaller (convinced myself!) but had no proof. Naughty naughty sweet companies!! lol
