TV to Micro HiFi to get better sound?

I've bought a TV(Toshiba19BL502B) for use in the kitchen. We have a Phillips Micro HiFi (DCM2055). I was hoping to improve the TV sound so tried taking the headphone output to the Micro HiFi MP3 input(only input) with a 3.5mm jack lead but it doesn't work. There doesn't seem to be any sort of signal transfer even with volumes at max

Did you remember to set your micro to MP3 input ?
And have you tried using headphones in the tv socket to confirm that it works ?0 -
Some TVs have a menu option to select headphones, it's not just a case of plugging them in, as it used to be....
Check TV instructions.
Is there no other audio output on the Tosh? What socketry does it have?0 -
Thanks aerostar/googler. Headphones worked. Old computer speakers worked. Looks like it's the lead:mad: should have checked that first but it was brand new from Tesco:o. Looks like that's going back.
Thanks again for replyingAwaiting a new sig0
