Dear All

I have tried to look into the possibility to bid a large appliances, furniture from eBay. But when I tried to contact Man & Fan Service many of them quote about £40-50 in London.

I understand that if you buy from the store such as, Curry, Argos, Cosmos, the delivery is free. or if any it will cost less than £10. Is there anyway to get it a cheaper delivery service, for instance using commercial courier services such ats Yodel, etc ?.

Are you asking about delivering from London to anywhere in the UK, or across London?

If it's the first £40 isn't a bad price. You can get the big couriers to shift a pallet for around £50. No one is going to move a fridge for £10 as a one off service, it's usually a two man job.

Have you considered hiring your own van? Might be cheaper.
I'm a car club member, and you can hire vans for less than £10 an hour.

I assume you have agreed with your seller about sending someone to collect? Frankly though I wouldn't shift a large appliance for less than £40 even 2 miles.

Your comparison with the big companies is not really a good idea though as they fill a van and deliver to dozens of people in one day, they have all the proper moving equipment and extra bodies necessary. Youc annot compare that to a bloke doing a single trip on his own for one or two items.

Personally I would grab at £50, as long as the van man realises he is expected to be able to shift white goods on his own.

I'm in Manchester but there is a charity here that has a van and man hire service that charges per hour/half hour, there may be some of those.

It may be a case of not using the internet, get a local free ads paper and see who's in that. You're still not going to get anyone to do it for a tenner, I'd have thought the lowest you'll get is about £30. Remember the cheaper the service the less care the carriers will take and they're unlikely to insure the goods should anything go wrong, whether in transit or when unloading.

    Dear all
I just come across by coincidence

    http://www.anyvan.com/

This is the action site where couriers will be bidding based the information we have provided such as:
Items description/type: e.g. white goods, Wardrobe.
Item location and where to deliver it: e.g. something to do with the distance.

Although I did not use the service but I have got quotation from south East London to North London for £40 for a Washing machine.

Please be notified. I am not in the business to promote this courier services auction. I am a user which sometimes needs this service from item won on eBay. Previously I use courier from yellow page, most of them will charge between £40-£55 an hour with a minimum charge of two hours which in my opinion is ridiculous considering that it sometimes already more than the price paid for the goods itself.
