Thanks guys for all your replys.
My daughter went to uni today and had a meeting with the accomodation people.
The land lord has sent her a letter saying she will tart court proceedings if she does not move out before 20th October 2012. Quite bizare really considering she moved out on 13th and the incident happened on 12th and the letter was dated the 12th!
The uni people has adviced her to contact housing aid to get their advice and to ensure there is no further pull on my daughter:j rolo-polo1965 :j0 -

However that is because I am old enough and wise enough and could handle that with no issues, although a lengthy process. Your daughter's situation is very different in that she is at Uni and does not need this sort of stress and hassle and obviously there because she wishes to study. She does not want to be there and you should assist in that.
I would as been mentioned communicate via letter and make sure you get in writing that she is absolved now from any bills, rent etc etc as because the parents seem vindictive you wouldn't want a MCOL landing on your doorstep for something they have dreamed up but you have no evidence to counter their claim.0 -
Not sure how my daughter should return the keys as the land lord lives 70 miles away.
Should we send them recorded delivery or should we arange to meet them and hand the keys over?:j rolo-polo1965 :j0 -

Send them recorded delivery to the Landlords address that is on the tenancy agreement0 -
My brother has been renting student properties out for over 20 years and owns houses and flats that have from 2 to 10 students living together.
We are now starting the whole process of looking for students for next year.
In 20 years of doing student renting only once has the same group asked to stay for 2 years!!! WHY because they fall out and will not live under the same roof for any longer than the 10/12 months tenancy they have signed.
Having the Mum and Dad of one of the tenants as Landlords only makes this worse ( spoilt child comes to mind )
Hope your daughter can find a room in halls and find new friends in the people she will be sharing with.
Good Luck0 -

There are other reasons too - if someone goes off on a year abroad (compulsory for some degrees, especially languages) and they can't find / don't want a replacement flatmate, so they find another house with one less bedroom.
They decide that they can find a better house elsewhere (in terms of quality, price, location, state of repair etc.) and do so. Around here it is quite common for people to get a bit fed up with the student ghetto that is Fallowfield, and choose to move out into a more residential area like Withington in third year.
They don't fall out, but someone decides that they would prefer to live with another group.
Moving isn't always about bust ups between flat mates...0 -
If you would like to see the ghetto of a house we rent out in fallowfield I would love to show you round ( with the students permission of course)
Will be on Manchester Student Homes website soon but not for long!!
yes many student groups break up due to students doing placement, work experience ,3rd years finishing etc
PS Fallowfield and near Wilmslow Road is the most popular area in Manchester for students to live.
Not ALL Landlords rent out Ghettos0 -
Definition of 'student ghetto' : Residential area, usually in close proximity to a university or college that houses mainly students. Fallowfield is definitely that.
I don't think V Chic Chick was referring to your personal house as a 'ghetto'!What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -

What picklepick said with regards to the definition of ghetto - I only meant that Fallowfield is almost exclusively populated with students.
I know that not all student houses in the Fallowfield area are horrible - I live in a quite a nice one! That said, when house hunting, I did view some absolute pits of houses in the area (obvious rodent problems, japanese knotweed, flytipping in the back garden, obvious damp etc.).
As always, the local rental market is something of a mixed bag.0
