Barclaycard Initial Application Question

in Credit cards
Hi Guys,
I recently applied for a Barclaycard Initial Credit card to start rebuilding my credit history after a number of turbulent years. To quickly bring you up to speed: I accrued a large amount of debt in my younger years culminating in bankruptcy in 2008. I was discharged in 2009 and have behaved well ever since.
I never owed Barclays a penny even in the 'bad old days'. I was provisionally accepted for the card and they asked for two forms of ID to confirm my ID and address etc and I sent them off over 2 weeks ago but have yet to hear back.
Has anyone else been in this situation? I am a little concerned as I sent off copies of my passport and national insurance details and have not even received an acknowledgement that they were received.
Thanks,
MS.
PS. I have tried calling their customer service number but it connects to a foreign based call centre who are less than helpful

Yes this happened to me. I sent exactly what they asked for and a few weeks later got a letter saying I had been declined based on their 'fraud prevention criteria'. There was nothing wrong with what I had sent them and it turns out its a common occurrence. I had to wait 3 months and apply again, then they accepted me without the need for any documents. Hope this isn't the case for you, but be prepared for it.0

Thank you for your reply. I must say I was afraid of something like this. It's frustrating but I guess I must pay the price for being a naughty boy in the past and I only have myself to blame.
The ironic thing is that I have a bank account with Barclays at the moments and it has in excess of £20,000 in. I just need to ease myself back into the world of credit somehow and i thought that they would be a good place to start. Oh well...0 -
I applied today and they said I had been accepted and the card should be with me in the next 5 days. I should also recieve an email shortly so I can set up
Mybarclaycard. As soon as that arrives I guess I'll see what credit I have been granted.Capital One - £250 Limit £0 Balance, Barclaycard - £400 Limit £0 Balance, Zebra Finance - £935 Balance, 3 SIM £40 Monthly.0 -
Do let me know what kind of limit they offer you. I'm not sure if its worth messing about with these basic credit cards if all they offer is a £300 limit or whatever.
I'm just frustrated that there seems to be no other way to build my credit history back up. I havent had any new credit (other than a mobile phone contract) since 2003 so I think I pretty much have to take whatever I can get sadly0 -

Bankrupt in 2008, now excess of £20k .....was you hiding it from the or beforeDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -
Hello, I have 2 defaults. After clearing all my debts I wanted to pass a credit check to rent a flat.
So First thing was to open a catalogue which was Very (£900) and Littlewoods (£1700). I already had next with a limit of £3600. So after a year making small purchases credit card companies can see how well I manage my debt.
5 months ago I applied for capital classic with £1000 limit, at the same time Barclaycard initial with £1200 limit. Believe it or not I have £8400 available credit. I can start to think about getting a flat.
Sorry for my life story but it shows credit companies trust me after making these steps and hopefully it will benefit other people.0 -
Sorry for your loss but you can only expect replies and comments on the facts as you had written them down, £20000 in savings 4 years after being bankrupt is bound to raise a few eyebrows.
As for OP i would apply for either Cap 1 or a Vanquis card and see if any joy failing that start with a catalogue as suggested in previous post, if you get 3 declines you should wait 6/9 months before applying for anything else.0
