Spare tyres

When I've phoned the AA about tyre troubles they've always asked on the phone if I've got a servicable spare. The answer's always been "yes" so I don't know what they'd say if I said "no", but there must be a reason for them asking.hampshirebabe wrote: »Anytime I've had a puncture before I've called out a breakdown truck to fix it
Obviously it might be different with your breakdown company...0 -
If you didn't have a serviceable spare they wouldn't send a patrol as theres not much they can do with an immobilised car like that. I've heard of beemer owners with run flats who have shredded their tyre on the motorway being given a local garage number by the call centre because they (the car owner) are not properly prepared for the road!0

OP did you see Watchdog last night? I would never rely on a can of gunk. My car came with a space saver, within a month a tyre was punctured, hole in the side wall. A can of gunk would not have repaired it. Used the space saver, hopefully never again, not a pleasant experience. Bought a full size S/H wheel and tyre shorty afterwards. At the very least carry the space saver and check (don't guess) with your breakdown company, as some won't cover you without a suitable spare, unless its a car known to them to only be supplied with can of gunk.0

My car came with a space saver wheel but I replaced with a full size one. I got it cheap off the bay of e complete with a port worn tyre on.0

Keep the spacesaver in the car, neighbour had a puncture and only had the gunk, put it in and it just leaked out on to the road before he could pump up the tyre, had to wait to be revovered and was taken to the large local tyre depot who could then rip him off as he was stuck.0
