Should I have a P60 from an ex employer?

in Cutting tax
Hello all,
I wonder if you could help me with something please.
I have had a letter from HMRC saying that there is a shortfall in my 2010/11 contributions. I do not have to pay it but I think that its causing a dispute in my current claim for Contribution Based Job Seekers Allowance.
I'll explain,
Upto September 2010 I worked for Company A.
Made Redundant, got P45
Claimed JSA until March 2011
March 2011 worked for Company B.
For the 22 weeks (acording to my P45) of the tax year 2010 that I worked for Company A, should a P60 have been produced during April 2011?
Or does the fact that I had a P45 showing my earning cancel the need for a P60.
My other concern is that when talking to HMRC on the phone, for 2010/11 they only have me working for Company B  They have no record of Company A.

P60 is only necessary from your current employer
so no, there is no requirement for employer A to give a P60 once you have left0 -
No, as you say, the P45 replaces a P60.
The P60 is only issued to employees working for the company at 5 April.
That said, Company A should give HMRC a P14 for every employee after the end of the year. The P14 is part of the employer's annual return and is broadly similar to a P60.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Excellent, thank you both, that does save me the bother of going to my ex employer.
So now to work out how it is that HMRC think I only worked for Company B.
I've filled in the form which was sent along with a copy of the P45 from Company A. I do hope this is sorted out as it seems to be preventing my current claim for JSA.0
