What happen to my electricity

I have seen there is a key attached to the meter and anytime I reinsert the key the amount of pound increase again ? What is acttually happening here, is it possible that the previous owner still have credit that I could use ?

    It is most likely that you are activating emergency credit that you will at some point have to pay back. I presume that the key has British gas written on it?
    Yes you need to contact British gas and let them know that you are the new owner/occupier. They will then register the supply in your name and they will send you out a new key.
  • You must take meter readings and go to a paypoint shop for a replacement card.
    Stop using the key left by the previous occupants because if you put money on this it will go to their account not yours.
