Travel Insurance advice please...

I am going to the US next October as part of a group of 10 (my siblings and their families being the other 9). I am slightly concerned about leaving my elderly parents for 3 weeks and want to make sure that, should anything happen to them while I am away (god forbid), I will have adequate insurance cover to be flown home. I know that there will be many conditions related to this but I am not sure exactly what I'm looking for in the insurance terms & conditions. Any advice please??
I hope I am just being very over-cautious here but I have heard a few horror stories which have got me thinking.

~What are you classing as elderly.
I doubt you will get any insurance which covers pre existing conditions, when you do get it, comb all the t&cs, they can tell you anything over the phone, but its what is written down that counts.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

They are in their mid-70s with a couple of minor ailments between them. I know these probably won't be covered but they are so minor they are not really of any concern.
Perhaps I will be best to call a couple of companies. I do so much online these days, I didn't even think!

This is definitely a case for speaking to the scheme providers or the insurance company direct, explain the circumstances and get confirmation (and a reference) that they will accept the risk.
(Failure to declare relatives with medical conditions is one of the most common oversights when looking for travel insurance, since most companies don't ask questions about relatives even if the duty to disclose is in the policy. This may change soon as the principle of 'uberrima fides' - utmost good faith is changing and it will be up to the insurance providers to ask all the questions they need. I anticipate application forms will become much more long-winded.)0 -
You are looking for cancellation/curtailment cover - which is standard in most travel policies.I know that there will be many conditions related to this but I am not sure exactly what I'm looking for in the insurance terms & conditions. Any advice please??
Cancellation obviously applies if something happens before you leave and curtailment is cutting short the holiday.
Just make sure it covers the additional cost of returning early and not just the unused portion of your holiday.
ps Go and enjoy your holiday - they will be fine.0
