Oyster card mistake!

Hi I did something very stupid this morning.

I bought a paper ticket as usual to go to work. I also have an oyster card that I use as an aside.

When I got to the end of my journey this morning, for some reason, I took out my oyster card and swiped it as I was on autopilot. Nothing happenned 3 times, then I tried it through the disabled/large walkway bit and oit let me through. I thought that was odd. Then I realised that it was because I should have used my paper ticket.

Sounds pretty stupid and it is. I still have my paper ticket for my journey.

I was just wondering if there is a consequence of doing this? And if I can claim anything back? What charge would they have put through on my oyster for just touching outr? I think I only had 7 pounds on there anyway.

    Why touch in and out?
So we know where your journey started and ended and can charge you the right fare if you're using pay as you go.
If you don't touch in and out
You may pay a maximum Oyster fare of up to £7.80.

    Oyster Helpline on 0845 330 9876 (08:00 to 20:00 daily).

You could ring them BUT it might not be worthwhile if left on hold trying to get through and cost of the call.

I've done this loads of times! Just phone up the helpline and they will refund it back on to your oyster for you the next time you use it!
  • i've done this at waterloo, after becoming confused as to whether I was 'exiting' national rail, or 'entering' the underground.

A tube ticket office can do this for you as well, although they might ask to see your original ticket.

tfl are very helpful, it's best if you go straight to the customer services at the station because they can see the paper ticket for themselves. But the telephone helpdesk should help as well.

You should really set up online journey statements. i did this and gives me an itemised list of my journey. So I can check my balance and spot any discreprencies.

I would have gone straight to the ticket office as they are helpful. I forgot to touch in once because I normally use underground but when I touched out, my balance went to zero. Went to the office and they sorted it out right away. They'll tell you to make sure you touch in and out correctly though. :)
    Cup of Tea? :coffee:
