Is There A Cooling Off Period When Switching To Another Tariff (Same Supplier)
Hey Guys
Just want to know whether a 'Cooling Off Period' only applies to changing suppliers or whether you still have a COP when changing tariffs within the same company.
I am currently with SP and was on the 'Online Saver 10' tariff.
When BG announced the rises recently, I phoned SP to ask what the difference in price would be with their fixed tariff using my annual usage.
No answer despite phoning several times, so thought I'd get in early and switched to their 'October 2014' fixed tariff on the 12th October while I still could.
After switching, I put all the info relating to my usage and their current tariffs and it worked out that I would be paying over £100 more by switching to the fixed tariff.
I then went onto the comparison sites armed with my annual usage and FU came out top with a fixed tariff close to my current 'Online Saver' tariff and around £100 cheaper than SP's fixed.
So I immediately fired off an email to SP saying that I want to cancel the change of tariff (the fixed has a cancellation charge) and stay on my 'Online Saver', which has no cancellation charge.
Anyhow, SP finally replied today (16th) stating that if I change suppliers I will be charged a combined cancellation charge of £50 despite only changing on the 12th.
What's the deal with this 'Cooling Off Period' regarding the change of tariffs?

Apparently not, but it sounds like you will still be quids in if you switch.Hey Guys

Perhaps you could also get some cashback to sweeten the ETC pill a little

Finally got through to them after 45 minutes on the freakin' phone there is definitely no cooling off period when switching between tariffs.
Just told her that it's too bad and that'll be moving anyway and that I won't consider them again in the future (I spat my dummy out AND threw my toys outtta the pram)
I did go through CB, which was about £40 (if it pays out), so all being well, that should almost pay for the cancellation fee.
P!5hed off with myself more than anything to be honest for not researching better beforehand.
Teach me for being on the ball (or not as the case may be).
