Can someone help me with fruity loops?

I just got fl studio and i dont know whether im doing it right and its not working or whether im doing it wrong and thats why its going wrong, because when im on the window which is playing the piano (the cream/brown one) and you press the record button nothing records, i dont know what im doing wrong, can anybody help me please?

When you say nothing records - what is it your trying to record?
