Ahhh..Going mad looking for new cheap laptop

Options
 I used to know my onions with stuff but there is now so much choice I just cannot get my head round it!

I have almost just decided to buy a Dell just because I'm fed up of trawling round!

Want the best value I can get for about £400.

Choices are...

1501 - AMD® Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL50 Vista™ Home Basic 15.4" WXGA 1024MB 80GB 256MB ATI Radeon® Xpress 1150 8x DVD Writer £388

OR

6400 - Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2060 1.6GHz 512MB 80GB 8x DVD Writer 15.4" WXGA Intel® Media Accelerator 950 Vista™ Home Basic £398

OR

640m -Intel Core Duo T2060 1.60GHz 1024MB 80GB 8X DVD+/-RW 14.1" WXGA Vista™ Home Basic £447 Intel GMA950 graphics £447

So basically can anyone advise on if the '256MB ATI Radeon® Xpress' graphics card is worth having over the Core Duo processor?

I'm fustrated I missed the offer and waited to see what this week would bring (nowt as far as I can see).

Help appreciated!!

I have the top one - it's about a week old - it's fine - in terms of speed its much faster (noticeably so) than my AMD 2500 1GB Ram desktop.

I am a basic user surfing email bit of picture editing bit of dvd burning etc - I chose my machine due to big tele (me eyes aren't what they used to be 1) 1 GB RAM and price

If your getting vista then a machine with 1024 RAM is the one to go for.

Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • I think I'll do that but at this rate I'll never buy one!!

There are some good looking ones at laptop direct

but only comes with XP and I reckon for future proofing that Vista is the way to go.

Anyone know how the duo compares to teh AMD with the ATI radion?

I wouldnt touch acer or any of the budget makes, laptops are more prone to faults than desktops so its worth paying a little extra for a decent brand like toshiba or compaq.
I'd go for a clearance XP model on the premise that its the hardware that matters not the software. Hunt around and not just online.
Personally I prefer AMD processors but thats down to individual. Unless you are running Vista premium and the Starship Enterprise 512mb is fine for the everyday user and can be upgraded cheaply in the future.
