We Want to get Married in Canada - Any Advice?

Hi Guys,

I'm after some advice. My partner popped the question on Valentines Day and we said we sit down and chat about wedding plans over easter. So that's we did. We're both quite quiet and private people and have decided that we'd like to go abroad to get married, with just a select few close family members. We really like the idea of getting married in Canada, Banff or Lake Louise, that sort of area. We're aiming for early 2009 as it'll give us chance to clear some debts and save some money (and shift a few lb:rolleyes: ). So....my question is ,can anybody offer advice as to keeping the costs down and also as to our legal requirements for getting married in Canada? I've googled for information and there's heaps of advice for sunnier countries (more popular I guess) but relatively little on Canada. Any information or guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks :p

  • We are looking to get married in Canada as well. Like the look of Lake Louise and want to go June 2008. Kuoni, Virgin and Airtours do weddings there but I'm waiting for the wedding brouchers for next year to come out. Problem is that these company (kuoni not sure about yet) are only doing winter weddings (1 Dec to 30 April) and I do really want summer. Any advice or have anyone got married at Lake Louise and organised it themselves? Thanks

It seems marriage laws in Canada vary among different provinces and territories.

Some lovely accomodation in Canmore, 20 mins drive from Banff but much cheaper for what you get.

We're going there in a few weeks- Lake Louise is on the list of must-sees, starting with whale watching in Vancouver, then travelling over.

Congrats on the engagement, I can thoroughly recommend getting married abroad- damn good holiday for about a third of the cost of a home wedding:money:
