Alcohol is far more easily available than most hard drugs. This might have an effect on the statistics.

Personally I think we think very carefully on legalising drugs. There is a very strong link that many cause physchosis which in many cases is irreversible. By making theses substances easier to obtain we'd be making it even easier for people to become dependant or worse ill on them.

In effect we are trading one evil for another.

    Are you reading this properly?

    188 Alcohol Deaths 2010
    2747 Drug poisoning Deaths 2010 of which 791 Heroine/Morphine, and 144 Cocaine)

Additionally, in Table 2 of the data, were 600 deaths from "Mental and behavioural disorders due to drug use (excluding alcohol and tobacco)"

You choose simply ecstacy (8 deaths) when even cannabis caused 11.

"Number of deaths where selected substances were mentioned on the death certificate"

Ie it's a a load of Hamish McTavish.
