Gas and electricity double payment charges
Hi,
Can anyone advise me on the following please?
I'm with Scottish electric ( as cheapest supplier in my area)
I got behind with payments due to I'll health
I'm on dla and incapacity benefit.
Set up last year payment plan to pay extra each monthly payment to pay of debit.
Since April this year Scottish electric have been taken increased agreed rate payment twice a month. And in August they took the same payment four times.
What is the law on companies taking a double payment and four payments without my permission, any written or telephone permission ?
I have worked out from September with the extra payments ( twice a month - which was not agreed) they have had debit paid.
I have now asked over 3 weeks ago for a statement of all my bills since joining Scottish electric and also a statement of the bills I've paid.
They have still not sent and still not explained or apologised for helping themselves to my money.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm now having to use duvet as cant afford heating, as money they have taken has meant other dd's not been paid. I

What is the law ...
First of all who are "Scottish electric"?
Regarding your question there are two separate issues. Firstly the mechanism used to extract the money. Is the supplier using Direct Debit or Continuous Authority on a debit card?
Regarding the behavior of a supplier you are entitled to raise a formal complaint on the first occasion you are not 100% satisfied with a customer service outcome. I recommend you do so in writing or by email. Do not discuss the issue by phone unless you are confident you will not be "duped" by a trick (or ambiguous) question.0
