Oakwood Tree Services

Hi all

Wasn't sure where to put this so here seemed most appropriate. Last week the aforementioned company were working for a lady down my parents road in Surrey. They gave her a business card with the name George Smith of Oakwood Tree Services on it and some numbers, mobile etc. Now when they left they drove to the end of the road where my parents live and tried to turn around. They hit the front wall of my parents house, unattaching their trailer in the process. They then got out to reattach the trailer before making a hasty get away. I know all this because it was caught on a neighbours CCTV. I have matched the van in the footage to a picture of this company's van on the internet but am having difficulty tracking their telephone number or website or physical address. My question is has anyone heard of this company or have contact details, a registration number or website so I can pass this info onto the Police and get these scumbags dealt with appropriately. I believe they are based in Paignton in Devon or thereabouts but cannot confirm this. They seem to do work around the Reading area. Any help would be appreciated as it really seems unfair that my parents have to claim from their insurance when we have a name for the scumbag that did the damage. Please PM me if you have any details whatsoever that may lead to getting this solved.

Report it to the police, and give them the registration of the van. They will be able to trace the registered keeper of the van, and hence proceed from there. If you do not have the registration, well the police may be able to trace the people more effectively than you given their resources and databases.

  • Thanks for that, the Reg is not clear on the Video sadly but the sign on the side of the van is clear and matches exactly the one we found a picture of on the internet. I have now managed to trace a phone number, email address and home address for this bloke so hopefully that will clear it all up. We are informing the police but are not hopeful they will act even with the evidence I have gathered. Police databases and resources are good, if used. Community help is better though in this case. Sad part is my parents have £200 excess on their insurance so will be out of pocket anyway, even if they do prove he is liable.

I do hope that this is resolved in your parents favour. Last year i was spun across the road into a crash barrier by some nutter and we only had the name on the side of the van to go on despite witnesses to the incident and police involvement, nothing could be done and it cost £1200 for my car repairs as i wasnt fully comp. i know it is different, but i was told that without the reg of the offending vehicle little could be done. Hope things turn out different for your family.

  • Sorry to hear that you weren't able to claim from the muppet that hit you, it's very frsutrating that despite doing nothing wrong you can be left out of pocket due to someone elses stupidity. I hope that the CCTV, which is timestamped and resonably good quality, will seal this guys fate. I'd be amazed if the Police do nothing and it would seriously lower my faith in them.

This is probably obvious, but if the police can examine vans from said company, and then find damage on a vehicle which matches that expected from the CCTV footage, then is that not case closed?

  • Well the police have been spoken to and are prepared to take action for leaving the scene etc. We have written to the guy asking if he wants to settle this amicably without involving the authorities or insurance so hopefully he will see sense and cough up for the repairs. Just have to wait for his response now. Seems with the internet and CCTV all over now it is becoming harder to escape justice. Thanks all for the help and advice.
