My printer printing black in fine patches since replacing

I have a Epson Stylus SX215 and since I have replaced the black ink cartridge with a 3rd party one its printing very patchy,
I have gone through the nozzle clean and head cleaning several times, took out the cartridge to shake it etc. Not a difference.
Any ideas?

Hi Middy, have you updated the printer drivers?

Also, in your print preferences, have you the option of printing at a higher quality? Worth a shot at this too.My son is now an ‘entrepreneur’. That’s what you’re called when you don’t have a job. – Ted Turner0 -
Does the nozzle check show the colours OK with just the black having parts of the pattern missing?
Have you used the same make of compatibles before, if so, change it again if you have another one.
If not, contact the supplier as they should exchange it0 -
I also have an Epson and I have found that on occasion compatibles don't work as they should. When this happens you need to scrap the faulty cartridge."Some folks are wise and some are otherwise." - Tobias Smollett0

I wouldn't scrap it unless you've tried a few things first. My present Epson sometimes says a cartridge i'm using is not compatible , but after taking the cartridge in question out and putting it back in again (maybe a few times) i've always managed to get it to work.Same old same old since 20080 -
Yes, I have did this too on an odd occasion.
(I have also spent an hour or two getting my hands covered in ink and my patience strained to the limit trying to salvage a £2 cartridge but I have learned from my experiencies.)"Some folks are wise and some are otherwise." - Tobias Smollett0 -
