Car Hire in UK for US Citizen
Hi Peeps, hope you can give me a little information/advice.
My Mum will be visiting from the US and wants to hire a car for a couple of weeks, she says that it is more expensive if she uses her US drivers licence than it would be if she used her UK drivers licence. However, my Mum left the UK before the photo drivers licence was introduced so therefore she only has her paper part.
Can she use just the paper part to hire a vehicle?
Can she apply for a UK photo licence even though she is not resident in the UK, she still has dual nationality even though her UK passport has expired?
And anything else you can think of.

While "paper" licences are no longer issued, they are still as valid as they were before and currently there is no compulsion to change over.0

I still have only a paper licence, I've had no problem hiring cars.0

Just remember the address on her old UK license will not be current - I can forsee a problem there as she will (well I have had to every time I've hired a van/car) have to take in proof of address (ie bill/bank statement etc)0

Well if it is problem she tries another hire company or uses her US licence.
I have never ever had to prove an address for hiring a car. (Mind you they probably just copied it off the licence anyway)0
