best way to black out a small window?

  • I'd suggest covering the window totally and looking at other options like a spy cam fitted to a corner so you can look to see who it is. There's so many options on the market you'd be surprised! (google "wifi door camera"). You wouldn't even have to get out of your chair to see who it was.

Depending on circumstances you could also consider putting up "beware the dog" signs (strangers wouldn't know you don't have one). Confidence in the face of a stranger will put them off too - although I know that's not always possible. Shouting back to "someone else in the house" can work too - "Don't get angry, your rugby kit's by the door here" followed by "sorry, gotta go" to an unknown visitor who doesn't know you haven't got a rugby playing friend there.

I totally understand your nervousness - but don't let it become more than sensible precautions.

Just get some black paper from an art supplies shop, cut it to shape and stick it on the window.
  • Think you just need a piece of card cut to the right size to wedge into the small "widow" frame. Light or dark coloured, it should look ok from the outside. . . .

    . . . . . or get a boyfriend :) just a joke, you don't have to if you don't want . .

I have ordered some sticky-back black plastic so I'll see how that looks.
  • ..or maybe get yourself a large dog ? :rotfl:
    (joking really)

I'd go for the black card/paper option ....but see how your
    sticky back plastic goes eh.

maybe blu tack stuff to hold the card on ?......mind though as it can take paint off some surfaces.

    :)

I would suggest using a curtain on a rod above the door: http://www.tracks-direct.com/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=12&strPageHistory=cat

Then look into a nifty camera that links to your tv: http://www.jmcsecurity.co.uk/
