Car insurance troubles - panicking now!!

Ok here's the story.

I currently have a policy with 1st Central which expires on the 31/10 for my current car.

I am buying a new car this Wednesday 17/10.

After having various quotes I decided to go with Quote Me Happy and start the policy on the 17/10 and just let my existing policy expire on the 31st.

However, QMH want me to provide proof of No Claims Discount, which I can do, however the website informs me I cannot use the NCD that applies to an existing policy elsewhere. The options they give me are to reduce the NCD to zero for my new policy (no way!!) or cancel it completely. However by cancelling, they tell me they are going to keep my initial payment of £70.

So what do I do?

My first thought is to change my 1st central policy to the new car but this will cost me an admin fee plus whatever extra insurance will cost for the remaining 2 weeks on new car (and I lose the £70 from QMH (can I just stop the DD to QMH to prevent this).

I'm really stuck and don't know what to do. I've got a new car in 2 days and don't know what to do to insure it.

Check the qmh ts & cs. They should allow you to cancel the policy with at most an admin fee as you do get 14 days cooling off. Though it maybe their admin fee is £70!

Then either postpone your new car till your expiry date or bite the bullet and pay your current insurers charges to get it covered.

Cancel the old policy and show them the no claims which may be cheaper than £70. But might not.

Will they allow the policy to be suspended until the 31st?

If not maybe pay up and never use them ever again. Slag them off to all your friends?

Stop the DD.. OH dear.. They might then cancel the policy on your behalf and send the bill to you. And then the debt collectors.
Your new insurance company suddenly ask you for an extra £300 because you failed to declare having an insurance policy cancelled for non payment.

Its going to cost you somewhere along the line. £70 may seem like a bargain after a while.

Cancel the policy pay the £70. Swap the car onto the old policy or cancel the old policy and take out a new policy. Or suspend the purchase for 2 weeks.

Debt collectors calling your family home or place of work isnt fun. Been there.
