RBS MasterCard isn't a valid credit card?? Balance transfer grr

Hey all. I've just got a new barclaycard platinum so I could use the 0% balance transfer offer. So I entered my rbs mastercard details online to do a transfer and the barclaycard online banking says it can't do it because 'this credit card doesn't allow balance transfers'.

Never heard of that! I rechecked and retried several times.

I rang rbs to ask if there was any reason for this, and they said they'd never heard of it and there was no reason it wouldn't work.

So I rang barclaycard to do the BT thinking there might be gremlins online. Unfortunately, they said that the number on my rbs card wasn't a valid credit card number. Great!

Has anyone had this / got any advice?

This is a new rhs card, I've had the account ages, but was recently sent a new card, a MasterCard to replace my old visa. I have used the card to make purchases with no problem.

Thanks! Dave.

  • this happened to me too, rbs confirmed that i could put the bt through using the old card number and it would still reach the account. its something to do with them not registering the card on the bt register or something...

    Your issue is with Barclays.

    Somebody somewhere hasn't updated something.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I've already spoken to barclaycard and they said the problem was with the RBS card. Feels like pillar to post to me.

@emzieslou did you do this and did it work? I was a but worried about doing a BT to a non existent card!
